Intro

After a long break, I have something to write about again. My colleague decided to replace the conventional radio in his car with a multimedia miracle of the Chinese industry. Everything was simple with the requirements - it must be able to read common audio-video formats from the main modern media, support GPS, dock with the phone as a hand-free and be able to connect a parking camera. The task was simplified by the fact that the radio tape recorder needed a universal, rectangular, without any features of shape and size. After studying the market, it was decided to spend a little more money, but take a radio with Android OS, since it is more modern and has shown itself better in other mobile devices than Win CE.

So what we were promised:

The decision to order a radio tape recorder was born at a time when the mail was already twitching in convulsions, and the timing of the last parcels was absolutely not encouraging - I received parcels that were on the way for 98, 107 and 153 days. However, there was a faint hope that EMS would be able to bypass the postal collapse and the parcel would reach at least a month and a half. The order has been placed.
Hopes were generally justified, sent on the day of the order, March 29, the parcel left China Post two days later. Two weeks later, she showed up for import, and on April 24, the status changed to ... "unsuccessful delivery attempt." I will not describe calls to the EMS call center in an attempt to understand what is happening, but after the second "unsuccessful attempt" I went and picked up the package myself.
Total - 28 days on the road. There was no photo of the parcel, but it looked surprisingly intact, not even wrinkled. So it seemed then. Inside the package are two unmarked boxes.

What's in the little box?

In a small box - the promised gift, a parking camera. I will not dwell on it in detail, the usual camera on the frame of the number, of which there are many in Chinese stores. Includes wires - signal and power. The camera is equipped with seven infrared LEDs and a light sensor. The need for them is very illusory, although, if you think about it, I also once had a “penny” without reversing lights. The camera works and seems to be assembled well, that's all that was required of it.

What's in the big box?

The contents of the big box are the radio itself and three bags of bells and whistles.

The first package contains papers. A very concise instruction on one sheet and two certificates.


The second package is the mount, remote control and GPS antenna. Here, too, everything is very clear. The infrared remote will be useful if you want to give a little power to the rear passengers. It works from one small round battery.

The third package is wires and Wi-Fi module. Three bundles of wires are stuck into the back of the radio and provide basic and additional connections - speakers, camera, power, service signals, multi-wheel buttons, amplifier, etc. Their purpose is described in the instructions, the wires are marked with color and tags (in two languages ​​- Chinese and English). The white cable is designed to connect iDevices, although the previous generation, as I understand it, has a wide connector. A short black cable is an adapter from miniUSB on the face of the radio to a regular USB. The Wi-Fi module is the most common USB whistle.

Now, actually, about the main thing. Outwardly, the radio tape recorder looks decent - there are no complaints about the assembly and quality of materials.

The front panel contains controls and a touch screen. The radio has 8 main hard buttons - Home, Menu, Back, Navigation, Radio, Previous track, Next track and Phone. Also, two additional buttons next to the disc receiver are the turn on of the player and the disc eject button. There is one more small button - RESET. In addition, there are two knobs, a microphone hole, a miniUSB port and two microSD card slots, one of which is fake.

On the back wall there are ports for connecting wires, cables and antennas. A callout with a USB port for connecting a Wi-Fi or 3G module also sticks out here.

The first trouble was waiting from below - the bottom cover was seriously jammed. In principle, the damage is not so terrible, but the hexagon next to it is the stand on which the board is attached inside. It was feared that it might also be damaged.


Naturally, the first desire was to disassemble and see, but as it turned out, this is not so simple. The bottom cover is attached to the board, which holds something inside (more precisely, it holds a lot of things). Thus, you can only get inside from the top. And there was one more surprise at the top cover - the warranty sticker was neatly cut. And if I can still justify the dent by the conditions of transportation, then here it is already obvious that someone climbed there for some reason.

Taking advantage of the fact that the guarantee still does not shine, I look under the cover. Below it is a disc player. Alas, at this point, immersion into the abyss of Chinese technology was interrupted by the owner of the radio, who demanded to stop the abuse. By the way, two of the four screws holding the drive were not fully tightened.

It's time to turn on this mysterious device. When turned on, a screen saver with a green robot appears on the screen, which then changes to an iridescent ANDROID inscription. Unfortunately, whether it is possible to put your own bootscreen and, if so, how, I have not yet found out. If it is possible, then the task is apparently not trivial.

After loading, the device turned on the radio. The interface is simple, clear and nice. The radio tape recorder perfectly catches FM radio stations with a screwdriver stuck instead of an antenna. There are all the functions that can only be in a modern radio.

After listening to information about traffic jams on the Road Radio, I press the Home button. Before your eyes there is a familiar interface OS Android. Five desktops that can be filled with shortcuts and widgets, the top panel, the clock and weather widget on the main one - whoever dealt with android will not get lost here. The device supports changing wallpaper, including "live" (animated).

The menu is filled with mostly necessary and useful programs.


The first thing that catches your eye when you open the menu is that the Chinese have installed Angry Birds. Now you can play "birdies" not only on your phone or tablet, but also on your car!

Long, short, but it's time to move on. There is a calculator, and with additional functions. So, now, if you suddenly need to quickly solve a logarithmic or trigonometric expression while driving (it happens all the time) - no problem!
To work with files, ES File Explorer is installed, and you can get on the Internet through a standard browser or through Opera. There are also two email clients - Email and Gmail, as well as the Facebook application. The Chinese even installed Flash, for which, of course, thanks to them. There is also a PDF reader - for those who like to read on the road.
Well, and most importantly, there is Google Play here, so you can install almost any software you need simply by connecting the car to the Internet.

Flash drives and memory cards in FAT format are connected without problems, 32 GB media were tested - there are no problems. In the internal memory of the device, the Chinese left media files for review: a clip with beautiful girls and several tracks by Britney Spears and someone else. But we have our own movie - it, like music from a flash drive / card, is played by a player application that is convenient and easy to manage.


A simple equalizer is a standalone application, but is available from any player. There are several sliders and preset buttons.


The disc player is a separate part. It has its own interface and its own players for different types of data. You can call it by pressing the DVD button on the radio, the Disc shortcut in the menu, or simply by inserting a disc.

To work with GPS, the Chinese have provided two programs. The first is GPS Test. With it, you can make sure that the GPS is there and it works. Since GPS starts when you turn on the radio, when you call applications, time is not wasted on this.

The second program is Sygic navigation software. Apparently, it is exactly what the seller has on colorful pictures, but in reality everything looks a little different - there are no cards.

Therefore, the navigation software was immediately replaced. There were no problems with the installation, everything is up and running perfectly. Through the settings, you can associate any application with the NAVI button on the "muzzle" of the radio. I offered to put on a quick call Angry Birds, but for some reason the owner of the radio preferred navigation.

The interface for connecting your phone via Bluetooth is also simple and concise. After "pairing", the phone is entered in the list and the next time the connection will occur automatically. It supports downloading the phone book from the phone (though only with SIM) and the ability to maintain your own.


The Internet is available either via Wi-Fi or via a cellular network. In the second case, you must use a 3G modem. The megaphone modem was easily detected, a cellular network (icon) appeared, and after prescribing the APN, the 3G icon lit up and the Internet appeared.


There were no problems with Wi-Fi either. The whistle from the kit easily and simply connected to the network and the Internet was back on.

But with the TV there was an overlay. The seller's description in small print mentions something about "TV niht arbeiten in some countries", but still it came as a surprise. The trouble is that due to the difference in formats, you will only have to watch TV shows with subtitles or sign language translation - there is no sound. True, our Chinese friends have very inexpensive transcoders, so perhaps the sound problem will be solved in one of my next reports.

The last feature I would like to talk about is the rear view camera. In the bundle of wires from the radio there is one called REVERSE. When +12 V voltage is applied to it (when reverse gear is engaged), an image from the camera appears on the screen. If desired, you can set the sound to turn off at this solemn moment.

Also, when picking in the wires, a wire was found responsible for the backlight (it is supposed to be connected to the dimensions). The backlight of the radio is blue, the buttons are lit, the knobs and the drive slot are lit. The backlight is not bright, but all the inscriptions are read well.

The device has a gigahertz processor and 512 MB of DDR3 memory - it works really fast. Android version - 2.3.4. There is built-in memory, from which approximately 1 GB is available.

Current consumption (it can be said without acoustics at all) is slightly more than Ampere.

The dimensions of the radio are given in the description of the seller, but just in case, I will add pictures with a ruler.

Installation

Installing the radio does not cause any unusual difficulties, provided, of course, that there is a suitable place for installation. In this case, it was installed in place of the standard single-din radio and shelves under it. The antenna is used standard, the GPS-receiver is hidden under the instrument panel. There is no television antenna yet, firstly, because it has not been purchased, and secondly, because it is also necessary to purchase a transcoder to convert the signal format. The parking camera has not been used yet either, instead of a camera on the frame, perhaps later a camera will be installed combined with the ceiling light of the room - this solution is more compact and nice. Report in the report - radio installation

In Lacetti, a simple Blaupunkt radio tape recorder is installed in the state. Its installation place together with the shelf form a suitable place for installing a two-din harvester.

The first step is to remove the frame, which is held on by rather tight latches. In this machine, the frame is removed together with the stove control unit, so two connectors and two cables hold it together with the latches. Important - the cables are easily removed, but not from the block, but from the places where they go: one - under the steering wheel, the second - behind the glove compartment, which will have to be removed. It is not difficult to remove it - 6 screws, 3 on top and bottom.

After removing the frame, 4 screws become available - two hold the radio, two hold the shelf. In the picture they have already been removed, the black and green-yellow connectors are the connection of the head unit. Black is a standard ISO connector, green-yellow is responsible for connecting the buttons on the steering wheel.

To connect to a new radio, with the help of two connector labels (instructions for the new radio and a sticker on the standard one), heat shrink and such and such a mother, an adapter is made. In general - nothing complicated. Since there are no contacts for the multifunction steering wheel in the ISO connector, in order for the steering wheel control to work, one of the two wires from the standard connector must be connected to the KEY-1 wire of the new radio, the second to a common ground.

Next - an estimate and adjustment of the mount. One trouble surfaced here - the radio tape recorder turned out to be somewhat smaller than the hole, leaving an unsightly gap along the contour. Alas. Before buying a radio, you must carefully (damn it!) Measure its future place. Now you have to make some kind of stub, but that's another story.

Despite the fact that the camera has not yet been installed, it is necessary to prepare for this. It is necessary to lay two wires to the rear - signal and REVERSE from the radio. REVERSE will be connected to the positive on the reversing lights so that the radio will switch to the signal from the parking camera when reverse gear is engaged. The process of laying wires for the most part is not complicated and does not deserve close attention.


It remains to attach somewhere a GPS antenna and a callout for Wi-Fi / 3G. The GPS antenna wire is rather short, so placing it in the back of the car is out of the question. In our case, she found herself a place under the clock on the top of the dashboard.



We were also lucky with the removal of the rear USB - the Lacetti has several huge holes leading from under the panel to the glove compartment. There was no need to invent anything, as it was here.

It's time to finally take stock. What is good here and what is bad here?
Pros:
+ high functionality, there is everything you need and not so much;
+ good sound. I'm not an esthete, but it certainly sounds no worse than regular;
+ good workmanship, nice to look at and to the touch;
+ ease of installation and connection;
+ price. For the money there is nothing like it;
+ Angry Birds! :)

Minuses:
- TV receiver works only halfway, incompatible standard;
- minor oddities about which I spoke at the beginning of the report + bruising;
- donated camera - not the most successful and compact design;
- size discrepancy is already our private misfortune.

In general, the impressions are positive. There is only one complaint about the tape recorder itself - the TV. The rest - to the seller, mail, ruler.

Of course, the radio was connected to an old computer speaker system via line outputs, and the sound was decent, but personally, I am more than sure that the sound of home acoustics can be very different from the sound of a car speaker system. It is for this reason that I will not dwell on this point in more detail. Why is there no testing of the device installed in the car? Everything is very simple - this device is not mine, and the owner has not bought an amplifier at the moment and categorically reacted to my request to take a few photos of the connected device.
